i see, you would like to know who i am.

Born March of the year 2001,  I was nicknamed Yna after Kristine Hermosa's sought after performance in Pangako Sa'yo.  I grew up watching your favorite friendly dinosaur, Barney, which I believe is the culprit behind the fact that violet became my favorite color.

Don't mess with young Yna's bowl of Pork sinigang, her cry is as loud as a firetruck siren.

Does her name really mean moon?

I am named after mom-favorite and legendary Latina songstress Selena Quintanilla, yet I don't believe that it was out of mere coincidence that Selena means moon. Known to be easily lured by the smell of coffee, try to not talk to her in the morning until she gets her first cup of caffeine.

I've always aspired to be someone great, may that be through an academic breakthrough or writing the next mega hit song. Yet I grew to learn that greatness isn't exactly measured by the amount of people that know your name. Greatness is how much your existence affected those who know it, whether that be two or twenty thousand.

If not found on my bed scrolling through my friends' inappropriate-yet-equally-hilarious memes, I'm sure I'm at the nearest coffee shop. But wherever you find me, I'm a hundred percent sure that my Spotify account is playing my favorite playlist comprised of New Wave songs from The Smiths and Tears for Fears. Although both bands don't get to savor the glory of being labeled as my favorite band, that honor goes to Red Hot Chili Peppers and The 1975.

It took me many years

to learn how to smile on

pictures. I used to hate the

fact that my eyes would

weirdly disappear when

I smile with teeth. I still

need more practice to

perfect my killer smile,

though.

I once planned to be an accountant, then an engineer, then a doctor, then an educator - though not simultaneously, the only thing I learnt was that I am indecisive as one could be. Kidding aside, I learnt that some things may not go as initially planned, but a failed plan doesn't equate to a failed life. Stand up, learn from the last event, then dream again. That's how an aspiring doctor landed on a

broadcast media course.

But if there's anything constant about my desires or life plans, was that it needed to involve creation, or at least having something to show and talk about with people. Whether that be a new scientific concept, or a story that kept me awake at night.

I practiced my writing by telling stories on online platforms such as Tumblr and Wattpad (yes, that site where prepubescent teens gush over pretend stories of their favorite boy band) writing fan fictions of whoever was my celebrity crush at that moment. Don't ask for links, I already took them all down.

Strive to be better, not just for oneself but also in the service of others.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
